Tremere Pastoral

Performance our Pedigree

Objective measurement has always been an integral part of the Tremere herds and used in the selection of progeny to carry on the breeding coupled with eye appraisal of the functional soundness of those animals which make it to the selection group. It is one of our greatest joys to have news from satisfied customers and we do realise that unmeasured cattle will ultimately mean unhappy buyers. It is our aim to service bull buyers with guaranteed satisfaction.

The Tremere herd was formed from the original releases of females to the industry by CSIRO and only high performance bulls have been used in the breeding program either in single-sired herds or multiple matings with sires closely related. AI is practised extensively and multiple matings kept to a minimum due to the past adverse effect on Breedplan figures. Every animal is permanently identified with a complete record and the herds are placid, free moving and easily managed

In 1995/6 mating, there were 23 single sire herds in all projects together with two AI programs. (96/7, 24 single sires plus 4 in one AI program). Tremere recordings with Breedplan constitute 39% of total BR herd group Breedplan over the last 10 years.

Belmont Red Cow and CalfTremere has continually engaged in bench marking to compare and improve, not only the cattle, but the way the whole operation progresses. We have always been ready to have our product and procedures put to the test of trials, competitions and peer group inspection and evaluation. The only benchmark we find unappealing is that of the subjective show ring and there is a great resistance to corrupt the true comparisons within the herd by feeding select groups as 'show preparation'. This is kept to a minimum and the very best animals are usually not fed and shown unless final weights have been taken. Long feeding is just not practised.

Tremere is a participant in the CRC Meat Quality program to identify animals superior in meat quality and marbling. A Certificate of Excellence was awarded to Mort and Barbara Hudson in 1996 B.I.A. Seedstock Producer of the Year competition after inspection by a panel of graziers.

International interest. Tremere has supplied semen to South Africa and sold bulls for AI propagation in South America. Licensed semen is available for overseas and domestic markets from trait leader bull/cow combination, very high muscling characteristic and high EBV bulls.

There are over 1000 breeders on Tremere - ample number for heavy selection. The long producing life of the BR female means even more opportunity to select and retain the best. Minimum attention is paid to calving. Rarely is assistance given. Trouble free is expected. Tremere is aware that there are enormous areas where these cattle have a role to play. The superior performance in feedlot trials, in embryo transfer programs, in carcase yield and weight gain trials, in improving fertility, in improving or maintaining placid temperament has been proven time and again. Individual animals continually bring credit to the establishment ~ largest eye muscle area bull through Hub meats, best fertility score in Wooroobinda Pastoral Co. field comparison 1995, etc.
