Tremere Pastoral is a family operated business focused on quality. In the current economic climate of stream lining and efficiency, Tremere is constantly appraising the cattle herd production and performance. Pride in our product and maintaining customer satisfaction demands ongoing operational review and instigation of best practise. As in any business, ease of operation contributes greatly to efficiency. Not only do we require animals that are adapted to the environment, they also need to withstand the intermittent challenges from parasites, yet be highly fertile and placid by nature. Qualities ably met by the Tremere cattle ! The Production Situated 16 km from Moura in Central Qld, Tremere runs over 1000 breeders. Hence an intense selection process is followed for the traits valued. All cattle are permanently identified and recorded with Breedplan, enabling a wide selection of performance recorded Grade and PB sires for sale from the four breeds. The Belmont Red herd also has Group Breedplan figures available. Maintaining Product Integrity We are always testing the herd productivity and property procedure with participation in trials, competitions, peer group inspections and evaluations. From winner of the Inaugural Ausmeat National Feedback trial for the Grassfed Japanese market, through a Certificate of Excellence in the 1996 B.I.A. Seedstock Producer of the Year competition to either winning or providing the genetics of every winner in the Beef 2000 objective judging, Tremere Pastoral is never content to rest on it's laurels. |

Diversity of the Gene Pool. Why maintain four breeds? We believe the unique genetic diversity offered by the four have a vital role to play in the Australian cattle industry. While extremely satisfied with the Belmont Red performance, it is Tremere's aim to always extend the parameters. By evaluating the performance of PB's and crossbreds, we are able to offer Sires to the industry tailored for the genetic infusion needed. These animals provide the outcross that will give hybrid vigour regardless of whether the other component in the equation is Bos Taurus or Bos Indicus.

Belmont Red The main herd on Tremere, Belmont Reds are a tropically adapted Bos Taurus breed - of Sanga origin. In fertility, carcase quality and disposition they are related to the British breeds, yet their resistance to parasites and environmental adaptation ensures they flourish in the tropics. The Tremere Belmont Red herd commenced in 1974, when the first females were released to the industry by CSIRO. Performance recorded from inception, the present day herd reflects the 28 years of selection based on EBV's, physical soundness and temperament traits. |

Bonsmara The Bonsmara breed was developed at the Mara Research station in South Africa. This sub tropical region subjected the breed to environmental and parasite challenges. Initially five British breeds were selected to cross with the Africander, following the data evaluation and adaptation capability of the animals, the breed has stabilised at 5/8 Africander , 3/16 Hereford, 3/16 Shorthorn. Like it's Australian counterpart the Bonsmara is Sanga in origin. The Bonsmara today is the largest beef breed in South Africa, maintaining the breed evaluation (utilising the BLUP methodology) on a database of 800,000 plus animal records. |

Tuli A native of Zimbabwe, the Tuli have been derived from the Tswana cattle from Matabeleland. A Pure African Sanga breed, this medium framed, beef animal is well adapted to the semi arid conditions in which it has thrived. Since their importation to Australia in 1990, the Tuli continues to impress with it's adaptability, high yield carcass characteristics (similar to British breeds), high fertility, early maturity and quiet temperament. |

Boran "Out of East Africa ". The Boran was imported to Australia at the same time as the Tuli. This breed is African Bos Indicus developed in isolation from it's Indian and South American counterparts. A Boran/ Brahman cross will give Hybrid vigour! A medium framed animal, the Boran has been bred for high productivity and beef. Not only was the native environment tough - the selection requirements placed on the breed have produced an animal that is low maintenance, highly adaptable, resistant to parasites, highly fertile, early maturing, with outstanding mothering ability.
